The Exercise Association of New Zealand (ExerciseNZ), is a non profit representative organisation, operating under an incorporated society structure. Our mission is to proactively support a sustainable exercise and fitness industry (which includes yoga) in New Zealand by growing participation in structured exercise through advocacy, information and industry standards.
For many years there has been talk about ‘standards’ for yoga teachers, and in particular having standards that are both appropriate for NZ, while being internationally
benchmarked. This idea was also reiterated at the yoga forums held by ExerciseNZ in 2016.
While there are several overseas yoga organisations which offer membership and various stamps of approval to New Zealand based yoga teachers, it has been suggested that a New Zealand based and New Zealand driven organisation could/should offer an accreditation/registration for New Zealand based instructors and teachers.
In response to this, REPs is planning to develop a specific yoga registration level, but before doing so we are gathering feedback.

Please feel free to share with others that were not present, so that they can see what was discussed, and just as importantly, what the next steps are and the development of collectively working together, and how they can ensure they are kept in the loop, and able to participate in the discussion.

Yoga Forum Information – July 2016
Recently we invited Yoga instructors and studio owners to a series of Yoga Forums being held in three locations around New Zealand.
Details about the forums can be found here, but in brief, we are invited all Yoga Studio owners and Yoga Teachers to come together to discuss the ways we can best create a supportive network within our country.
As mentioned above, the linked flyer has full information, but if you’d like to discuss the forum you can email us on www.exercisenz.org.nz, or find out more about about Persephone Singfield, owner of Courage My Love, (Yoga practitioner for over 20 years, Yoga Teacher since 2011), visit www.couragemylove.co.nz
We would like to thank the yoga teachers and studio owners who were able to attend and have given us their input so far. We will be releasing notes and and further information on the forum findings next week.

PS: For those who were not able to attend or are only finding our about it now it’s not too late to find out more. The forums were only the start of our engagement, so we will be inviting input from anyone interested on a regular basis, so if you’d like to be kept in the loop about this but unable to attend any of the forums, please let us know via the RSVP email firstname.lastname@example.org
